Lone Mountain Turquoise is from one of the last operational & producing turquoise mines in the United States. The mine has been referred to as the Blue Jay Mine for how its turquoise has maintained its color over time, making for great material to make jewelry. Lone Mountain Turquoise is renowned for its natural striking blue-green color and "spider-webbing", and is considered one of the finest turquoise varieties. This turquoise is un-stabilized with no treatments, and is the 2nd most valuable turquoise in the world only behind Lander Blue.

  1. Color: Lone Mountain Turquoise typically exhibits a range of blue-green hues, often with intricate matrix patterns running through it. The color can vary from light sky blue to deeper shades of greenish-blue.

  2. Hardness: Turquoise, including Lone Mountain Turquoise, has a Mohs hardness ranging from 5 to 6, making it relatively soft compared to many other gemstones. This makes it susceptible to scratches and abrasions if not handled with care.

  3. Clarity: Lone Mountain Turquoise is commonly found with varying degrees of clarity. Some specimens may be relatively opaque with visible matrix, while others can exhibit a smoother, more translucent appearance.

  4. Luster: Lone Mountain Turquoise typically has a waxy to vitreous luster, giving it a smooth and sometimes slightly shiny appearance when polished.

  5. Density: The density of Lone Mountain Turquoise can vary, but it generally falls within a range that is consistent with other turquoise varieties. It has a density ranging from 2.60 to 2.85 g/cm³.

  6. Metaphysical Properties: Turquoise is believed to offer protection from negative energies and promote overall well-being. It is associated with promoting balance and harmony, both within oneself and in relationships with others.
