Some UV Reactive pieces

  • Mineral: Corundum (Aluminum Oxide)

  • Chemical Formula: Al₂O₃

  • Hardness: 9 on the Mohs scale

  • Color: Ruby — red to purplish-red; Sapphire — blue, pink, yellow, green, purple, orange, and colorless

  • Clarity: Transparent to opaque

  • Luster: Glassy (vitreous) to subadamantine

  • Density: Approximately 3.95–4.10 g/cm³

  • Formation: Forms in aluminum-rich, silica-poor metamorphic and igneous environments, including marble, schist, and certain igneous rocks. Weathering can concentrate durable corundum crystals in alluvial deposits.

  • Origin: Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Madagascar, Thailand, Mozambique, Tanzania, and the United States

  • Unique Feature: Ruby and sapphire are varieties of the same mineral. Ruby's red color comes primarily from chromium, while blue sapphire typically gets its color from iron and titanium. Corundum is the second-hardest natural mineral on the Mohs scale, after diamond.
